I am not wanting to finish the book because I do not want it to end, but when I do I guess I shall simply start again at the beginning or in the middle it does not matter where I start - each of the pieces is compelling and what is special is that as a reader I felt invited to participate in and taste a kind of sweetness of companionship that was not at all sentimental but full of real sentiment - robust and uncompromising and not afraid to see itself without rose-coloured glasses on, which is alway a special treat.Product details

John Mercer is a national treasure. Story telling at it's finest, John writes with wit and charm and great heart. (plus a luscious vocabulary).
Like volume one it is well worth the money with another fine cover. However my only niggle is that the book is a different height so when sat next to each other they do not form a pair. This may say more about me of course. The stories are of course full of flavour and do not need a pinch of salt.
Please treasure and enjoy.
Always a surprise, John Mercer tells stories inside stories to reveal the layers that form insight and understanding. He takes you into a world that you might otherwise never see. Honest, engaging and a pleasure to read.
Once again Mercer opens his heart with the pen, helping us find the boundaries of our own hearts. Thank You John for sharing this gift of storytelling.
Through wit and honesty, he takes the reader through a six decade heart felt journey from the school playing fields in the North of England to his journey to Northern California. Inspirational, clever and beautifully written, making this reader sorry the book ended.

The author demonstrates that he is a thespian, a student of life, a philosopher, but we are grateful that he has the hands of a working man.If perhaps he falls into the conceit of most essayists, believing that all of his personal observations are of general interest, we forgive him simply for allowing us to witness. If he slides off into preachy and pedantic, we forgive him when we turn the page for yet another dose of poetic prose.Thank you, John, for another wonderful ride.
